The 'cut' from the bike path down to the community gardens

A group of thirteen made tremendous progress tonight clearing trails on the north side of the park along 55th street and the community gardens.

Thursday August 7th, we had a crew of 13 people helping to clear brush and overhanging limbs for the new ski trails. The trail along the 55th street field (photo to the left) was completely cleared and the brush will be picked up and turned into wood chips by the Park Department. We then moved down hill into the woods and cleared about half of the trail north of the stream. A second group also finished the cut through into the community gardens.

Our thanks go to Peter, Dan, and Patrick Luetmer; Alice, Laura, and Mike Zumbrunnen; Meg Weir, Henry and Bjorn Walker; Greg Rowley, Dave Greymont, Jeff Robertson, and Bruce Walk for all their help!

On Saturday, the proposed trails in the 55th street field were mowed in preparation for leveling them and the loop around the grove of trees in the field at the south side of the park was also cleared.

Please see the photo gallery for more pictures of this group in action!

Would you bike on roads with rumble strips (e.g. CR 8)?
